A site everyone can use

Effective date: October 28, 2026

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across forethekidskc.org. WCAG is the standard the W3C publishes for making websites work for people with disabilities, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, or captions.

What we build and check for

  • Headings and page landmarks in a logical order, so screen readers can jump between sections.
  • Text descriptions on images that carry meaning. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Full keyboard use, with a visible outline on whatever link, button, or field has focus.
  • Text and button colors that meet WCAG contrast ratios.
  • Buttons and links large enough to tap, and nothing fixed on screen that covers the item you are on.
  • Labels on every form field, and error messages that say what went wrong.

Known limitations

Some parts of this site come from outside providers we do not control: donation forms (GiveCloud), event ticketing and auctions (OneCause), and the cookie banner (FlowAppz). We report problems we find to them, but we cannot change their code. Older news posts carried over from our previous website may not fully meet the standard yet.

Report a barrier

If something on this site does not work for you, tell us. Include the page address and what happened. If a fix takes time, we will get you the information or complete the task with you another way.
